5 Steps to Achieving an Impossible Goal

(im)possible - 282/365

Have you ever dreamed about doing something only to dismiss it away as being impossible? Maybe you made some excuse as to why you couldn’t achieve it or why you shouldn’t bother trying. Whatever it is, you’ve labeled it impossible and moved on with your life.

But what if that goal isn’t as impossible as you think? Many things that seem beyond your capabilities could actually just be difficult to achieve, not impossible. In my own experience, many goals I once deemed impossible only seemed that way until I ultimately succeeded.

Always Pursue Your Dreams – No Matter What Happens

Dandelion seeds - Make a wish! [Explored #18]

I was watching a documentary the other day about someone who is pursuing their dream to become a big actor in Hollywood.  He arrived ten years ago and since then has had minimal success in reaching that goal.  When asked, the actor said he felt the time he spent pursuing his dream was completely worth it.

And for the most part I agree.  This guy showed persistence and determination in pursuit of his dream.  How many of us can say we’ve done the same?  In fact many people never even get started.  And that’s a shame too because you should always pursue your dreams even if they never work out.

5 Things You Should Be Able to Say Before You Die

things you should be able to say before you die
I think one of the most uncomfortable truths about life is the realization that one day you’re going to die.  But rather than sadden me, I find the concept weirdly liberating.  To know that I have a finite time on earth reminds me that I need to keep moving if I want to experience everything before I go.

It also leads me to some really hard questions.  What do I want to say about myself right before I die?  When I sit back and reflect, will I be proud of the things I’ve done or have some regrets?  These questions have stirred up my thinking and guided me to what I think are the five things you should be able to say about yourself before you die.

The Biggest Lesson I’ve Learned Over the Past 10 Years

Sit down and think hard over the past ten years or so of your life. Where were you ten years ago? What have you accomplished and learned since then? Thinking about your past like this can be really life-affirming if you’re in the right mood for it. Not only that, but it can be interesting to see just how far you’ve come and to figure out what lessons you’ve learned.

The 6 Habits of Well-Traveled People

'Too Many People', United States, New York, New York City, Times Square

“How do you get to travel so much?”

“Why is it that you always seem to be traveling somewhere?”

I’m asked questions like these on a regular basis. It’s rather surprising too since I really don’t feel like I travel all that often. I travel roughly three to four times a year, but there are people out there that travel way more than that.  But if you consider that the people who ask me these questions travel maybe once every couple of years, I can see why they’d think I travel a lot.

After some self-reflection I’ve realized that I have different habits from those who don’t see much of the world.  These habits have helped build a lifestyle where travel becomes a big part of my life.  What is more, I’ve noticed these same habits in other regular travelers.

Why Being Assertive and Disagreeable Pays Off (And Being Nice Doesn’t)

Living together - 187/365

If you met me in real life, you’d probably say I’m a friendly person.  In general I like to get along with people and will go out of my way to help someone even if I don’t know them very well.  But meet me under the right circumstances and I can be a downright prick to you.

It’s not that I go around looking for reasons to be rude or disagreeable to people I meet.  In fact it’s the other way around.  I’d rather be nice to everyone all the time.  But being assertive and disagreeable is often unavoidable and absolutely necessary to get where you want in life.

Taking the Path of MOST Resistance

I faced a tough choice today.  Should I sit down and relax or write this post despite the fact that I’m tired, not motivated and feel like I could just do it tomorrow?  I was giving myself a lot of reasons to put it off, but I went ahead and started writing anyway.

What’s funny about the whole thing is just how often you run into choices like this.  Pick between doing the hard thing even though you don’t feel like it or take the easier option and forget about it.  When I’m faced with that choice, I always try to go with the harder option.  You can face a lot of resistance taking that path, but it will make your life so much better in the long run.
