What It Means to Have an Adventurous Spirit

I remember exactly how I felt when I was listening to instructions on what to do in the water for my first ever whitewater rafting trip. It was an odd mixture of fear and excitement – feelings I normally get before I begin a new adventure. I had been in Costa Rica for three days and one of my goals for the trip was to raft down the beautiful Pacuare River.

I think it is stories like this which lead people to tell me I have an adventurous spirit. But was this experience really adventurous? My tour guide has gone down the river dozens of times, but the excitement was gone and he was just doing his job. Another couple I had met on the trip had been to Costa Rica six times. To them, it was just another trip.

Discover New Passions

I’m fascinated with passionate people. Some of them have such fire and drive in them that they completely captivate me even if what they do isn’t something I find all that interesting.

I realize that not everyone is as lucky in discovering their passions. I’ve heard some people say that you either have it or you don’t. However, I don’t think that is true. Finding your passion can be tricky sometimes, but there are ways to open yourself up to discovering them.

Making New Year’s Resolutions Work

The week after New Year’s Eve is the worst for going to the gym. Each year, thousands of people sign up to fulfill their resolution to lose weight so the gym becomes a mad house of overweight, ill-disciplined newbies staring at a lat pull-down machine trying to figure out how it works.

Normally I would encourage such behavior. People want to improve themselves, that’s great. However, two weeks later the vast majority of those people never return. This saddens me because it highlights to me how many people have something about themselves they want to change and don’t.

The Ultimate Motivation to Live Life to the Fullest

There really are only a fixed number of days you have on this planet. 28,616 according to recent life expectancy in the United States. Think about that for a moment. Your time is finite and can only decrease. Pretty depressing stuff, until you realize that knowing this can actually motivate you into making your life better.

It’s similar to the person who puts off a big paper until the night before and rushes to get everything accomplished. But I don’t want you to be the person who puts off something so important as carpe diem. That’s why I’m going to share with you my ultimate motivation technique to live life to the fullest.
